Exploring God's Love: A Positive Action Bible Curriculum

DISCLOSURE: I RECEIVED THIS COMPLIMENTARY PRODUCT THROUGH THE HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

There is just no replacement for experience when it comes to parenting and education. In the beginning, we know some things, but most of it we’re just making up as we go, praying the world believes we know what we’re doing. In the thick of it, we expect that we’re failing on all fronts but dig in our heels anyway. Then there begin to be glimmers of hope that suggest maybe we’re figuring out a few things along the way. Even in these reviews, over the years I’ve gained experience within companies and what to expect from them. Today we’re talking about Positive Action Bible Curriculum again and how we got exactly what we have come to expect from them. In the past we reviewed their 4th Grade Building Life Castles and 5th Grade Possessing the Land program. This time we are looking at their Preschool Exporing God's Love program.

What We Received:

We received an Exploring God’s Love Teacher’s Manual in a 3-ring binder that consists of loose-leaf black and white printed sheets and a full-color, paperback Student Workbook.

How It Works:

This program consists of 40 lessons that include several elements like Music Curriculum, Scripture Memory, Vocabulary, Setting the Stage, The Story, Review Questions, Worksheets, and Catechism Questions. The content is intended for Preschool aged children and easily adapts to a variety of circumstances. In the Teacher’s Manual there are Weekly Lesson Plans for 5-Day, 4-Day, 3-Day and even once a week for co-op or church use. Each lesson is built around a Bible story with Target Truths for the students to understand by the end. There are memory scriptures and song recommendations which are great options for breaking up readings. With coloring, cutting, gluing, dot-to-dot and similar activities, the Student Workbook is a fun addition to each story as well. Obviously at this age, the content is very teacher driven so the Teacher’s Manual is full of suggestions and resources to support the parent/teacher’s role. by providing overviews of each lesson, perspective on important concepts and suggesting effective teaching strategies.

What We Thought:

I used this program with my newly 5 year old son. He is doing kindergarten level work normally, but he is finishing up Preschool level at co-op. The line between preschool and kindergarten can be a little blurry and the nature of this program allows for so much flexibility and adjustment to the needs of the child, that age or grade level isn’t restrictive. He was happy to learn anything that was just for him, but it also helped that nothing was intended to take a long time. This program (and this is true of all the levels we have used) teaches scripture without adding unnecessary commentary, but does provide helpful insight for parents/teachers to highlight certain concepts throughout. I appreciate the focus on learning and understanding the overarching themes and truths of the Bible. I have come to expect a thorough exploration of scripture and plenty of various activities to support it from Positive Action Bible and this program did not disappoint. I have confidence that all of their programs follow suit!
